Afterschool Tutoring

Serving Afterschool students online and in-person in 2022

LaAmistad, which simply means “the friendship,” is the premier organization serving Latinos in Atlanta. With an environment constructed around the premise of friendships and relationships, we foster educational excellence and help our students, parents, and families to achieve a better quality of life.

LaAmistad is seeking volunteers who can offer elementary age homework help at one of our after school program locations. Volunteers work alongside a staff teacher and parent liaison. No Spanish or education experience required.

Volunteers have the flexibility to choose a schedule that works best for them. We prefer that volunteers commit to 2 hours per week with an assigned student, each being a 1 hour session between the hours of 3:00pm and 6:00pm, Monday - Thursday. Available days and times vary by location.

In the interest of community safety and comfort, online Afterschool will continue to support LaAmistad students, and provide virtual volunteer opportunities to those wanting to serve. Volunteers, staff, and supporters will be more critical than ever in ensuring the success of our students in the coming school year.

All volunteers must:

  • Be 14 years of age to volunteer alone. Students under 14 years old are eligible to volunteer with a parent or chaperone that volunteers with them in the classroom.
  • Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian sign a volunteer waiver.
  • Volunteers 19 and up are required to submit a background check.
  • Volunteers are required to complete a volunteer orientation. Click here to sign up for your volunteer orientation Short on time but still want to help out? Additional information can be found on the sign-up page, and we look forward to serving alongside you!

As a volunteer-led organization, LaAmistad is always looking for skilled volunteers who wish to serve using their wealth of knowledge and specific expertise. Sharing your passion has the potential to inspire students who otherwise may never have seen it up close. In addition, LaAmistad has a number of non-instruction volunteer opportunities for those who wish to help in other ways. Packing toolkits, labeling resources, loading COVID relief items, and distributing resources like books and food to families in need are among the projects LaAmistad currently has available. Be sure to check the "Special Projects" option on your volunteer form to be the first to learn about new opportunities.
